European Innovation Council
The EIC pilot supports top-class innovators, entrepreneurs, small companies and scientists with bright ideas and the ambition to scale up internationally. It brings together the parts of Horizon 2020 that provide funding, advice and networking opportunities for those at cutting edge of innovation.
With this aim the European Commission launched the new Work Programme European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot 2018-2020 with a budget of around 2.7 billion €.
In its first piloting phase, EIC will try to make already existent tools and initiatives complementary and to maximize their impact. Indeed, the current Work Programme 2018-2020 gathers in an only one framework Instruments such as FET Open, SME Instrument, Fast Track to Innovation and Inducement Prize, with the aim to select radical innovation propositions, able at opening new markets.
The target will be represented by people or companies with risky ideas and utterly different from products and services already existent in the market and requiring huge investments for their promotion. Great attention will be addressed to breakthrough innovations or market creating innovation. Other common elements of the WP 2018-2020 Pilot will be the bottom up approach, which make the applicants free from thematic restrictions, and the wide use of open call, with more useful deadlines for the proposal presentation during the year.
